25 April 2016 | Cambridge, UK
Supported by the European Commission and the African Union Commission IST-Africa is a collaboration between IIMC (Ireland) and Ministries and National Councils responsible for Information Society, ICT and/or STI adoption, policy and research in 18 African countries. This year IST-Africa will take place in Durban, Southern Africa from May 11th to 13th. As a partner of AfricaConnect2 GÉANT will be hosting a workshop on added-value connectivity for research and education in Africa in collaboration with ASREN, WACREN and the UbuntuNet Alliance, the three pan-African regional networks also partners of AfricaConnect2.
AfricaConnect2 follows the success of the AfricaConnect project which contributed to the creation of the UbuntuNet, a high-speed research and education network in Eastern and Southern Africa between 2011 and 2015. It also builds on the achievements of the EumedConnect project in Northern Africa and will extend connectivity into West and Central Africa.
The AfricaConnect2 workshop will take place on May 12th and will present the network infrastructure for research and education across Africa as of today as well as AfricaConnect2 expansion plans. Furthermore the session will focus on the value-added services that will enhance collaboration within African research and education and between Africa and other regions with special attention to South-South collaborations.
