GÉANT Board Member and Internet Hall of Fame inductee Erik Huizer of SURFnet was invited to take part in the panel discussion “Establishing High Performing Networks” held at this year’s CeBIT. He joined fellow panel participants Commissioner Oettinger, Hans Vestberg CEO of Ericsson, Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter CEO of Vodafone, Sven Heistermann of Google, Kathrin Buvac of Nokia, Karin Ahl of FTTH Council Europe and Anna Krzyzanowska of DG CONNECT.
The discussion covered the role and impact of networks on Europe's future economic success and on the creation of opportunities for a new generation. The panel acknowledged that excellent education and research requires the most advanced ICT, regardless of the field. The importance of unconstrained connectivity in cloud adoption was cited and the panel recognised that it was a multi-stakeholder responsibility to establish solutions for security, privacy and resilience of data - that of governments, industry and educators.
