RASH_logo.jpgGÉANT is pleased to formally welcome The Academic Network of Albania, Rrjeti Akademik Shiqiptar (RASH) as a project partner in the GÉANT (GN4-2) Project. This brings the total number of partners to 40, and further illustrates the truly pan-European nature of this long-running and highly successful project.

Connecting higher education and scientific research in Albania

Established for the first time in Albania, RASH will connect the country’s higher education institutions, scientific research institutes, as well as the Ministry of Education and those agencies in a common network. Among other objectives, it will help to: strengthen and boost the management capacities of the Albanian public higher education and research institutions, develop professional software and offer ICT infrastructure, and guarantee participation in research programmes/projects, both at the European and international level.

The RASH mission is to function as the Albanian NREN and offer ICT services over the network for public universities and research institutions, to support and facilitate the education and research activities. RASH offers software services that will manage and streamline university administrative, didactic and research processes and serve as the national Data Hub for education and research. These software applications can organise complex information to digitise the governance of education and research. RASH also collaborates with the Ministry of Educations and functions as the national centre for all ICT Services which bridge education and research agencies with universities.

The network itself has been designed to be easily expandable in the future to accept new entities to be connected to the Academic Network (public and private universities, other institutions or schools). Currently the backbone connects 13 public universities, 5 research Institutes, the Academy of Science, and the Ministry of Education and its agencies. All RASH services are hosted at its own Data Centre.

A new partner for the GÉANT (GN4-2) Project

The GÉANT (GN4-2) Project is a fundamental element of Europe’s e-infrastructure, delivering the pan-European GÉANT network for scientific excellence, research, education and innovation. Through its integrated catalogue of connectivity, collaboration and identity services, GÉANT – together with its NREN partners, provides users with highly reliable, unconstrained access to communication, computing, analysis, storage, applications and other resources, whenever and wherever needed. GN4-2 builds on the strong foundation of achievements by predecessor projects which span over 15 years.

The project is co-funded by Europe’s NRENs and the EU. As part of the GÉANT 2020 Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA), the project receives funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 731122 (GN4-2).
