Standards development

Influencing the development of international standards.

GÉANT is highly active in guiding and influencing international standards development - ensuring interoperability across the research and education community. Successful standards speed up the adoption of new technologies by enabling competition between innovators.

The use of standards and information from standards bodies are of great importance to and continue to be incorporated in the development of GÉANT services to ensure interoperability with services of other networking organisations.

GÉANT influences standards development through staff members and GÉANT Project participants making significant contributions and having leadership roles in the OGF (Open Grid Forum) and IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standards organisations. GÉANT is working with the following standards bodies among others:

  • ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute)

  • IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)

  • IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)

  • OASIS (Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards)

  • OGF (Open Grid Forum)

  • TM Forum (TeleManagement Forum)
