Network services
Software Defined Networking (SDN) and technologies such as Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) and Network as a Service (NaaS) offer national research and education networking (NREN) organisations the ability to overcome the limitations imposed by more traditional service provider technologies.

These technologies offer software-based and virtualisation features to increase the flexibility of network provision and offer user-friendly, custom service models to enable self-service network provision by end users.
This research is seeking to:
-
specify the architecture possibilities for selected future network services in the GÉANT–NREN context;
-
extend the models of existing GÉANT services in order to bring services closer to users and enhance them with advanced control and management capabilities;
-
introduce novel service models to address the requirements of specialised applications and add value to the GÉANT service area;
-
develop proof of concept models for a variety of use cases.
