EC partnership
GÉANT has been a trusted partner of the European Commission (EC) for many years, as the
coordinator of
network projects co-funded by the European Union (EU) and national research and education network (NREN) organisations in Europe, and by those in other world regions.
Within the partnership we have built, developed and operated
networks in Europe and around the world, and led collaborative
innovation, federated
service delivery, and support for
knowledge-sharing, to the research and education community.
We have long-standing relationships with the following directorates:
Directorate General Communications Networks, Content and Technology
GÉANT has been managing the GÉANT series of projects (successively called GN1, GN2, GN3, GN3plus and now GN4-1) since 1997. The EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, through DG CONNECT, funds the current project and the AARC project that we also manage. GÉANT also managed the ORIENT projects funded through this DG.
